The Sand Committee was formed to obtain the necessary state and federal permits to participate in a beach replenishment project should the need arise. While currently our beach and dunes are in good shape (due in large part to the placement of dune fencing across the dunes, which traps and deposits blowing sand) there always exists the risk of a direct hit from a hurricane or a stalled nor’easter that could either severely compromise or wipe out the beach completely.

Without the necessary state and federal permits, MBA could not participate in the periodic replenishment projects that occur in the surrounding public beaches. MBA has retained the services of a consultant, Gahagan & Bryant Associates (GBA), to prepare and submit our permit application. This firm assisted us in a prior effort to obtain a permit and recently has assisted Sea Colony in their recent effort to also obtain the necessary permits.

On August 13, GBA surveyors visited our beach to take measurements of the existing conditions.
