Susan Badger Rhue

Susan Badger Rhue, of Bethany Beach DE, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Susan was born on November 18, 1939 in Salt Lake City Utah. She was the eldest daughter of Rodney Jenkins Badger and Phyllis Snow Badger. Sister to Jennifer (Scott) Dutcher, Richard (Christine) Badger, and Reid (Lee) Badger. Wife of the late Bond E Rhue. Amazing mother of Jennifer (David) Ricketts and the late Elizabeth Cadwell.

As the daughter of a US Naval officer, she moved often and lived on both coasts. As an adult she continued to travel, eventually visiting all 50 states and several countries. Susan graduated from Wakefield HS in Arlington, VA and earned a BA degree in education at George Washington University. Once married she settled down to raise her girls in the idyllic town of Cheverly Maryland. While her children were young, she was a stay-at-home mother and frequent volunteer. Before her girls were born and when they went to high school she excelled in her career as a Pre-K and Elementary School teacher in Prince George’s County until retiring in 1999.

Susan loved her home in Bethany Beach lovingly inviting and welcoming all to visit and stay with her. Whether you were family, friend, or a friend of a friend she was always willing to host people at her house. She especially loved when her grandchildren stayed with her, Kathlyn (Andrew) Goodwin, Alexander (Sarah) Cadwell, Bond Cadwell, Rachel Ricketts, Brian (Natalie) Ricketts and Sarah Ricketts. Great -Grand children- Madeline, Isabella, and Mable Goodwin. She loved her grandchildren creating special bonds with them and getting to know their friends. She enjoyed baking so no one who visited ever left hungry or without a to go container of goodies.

Outside of her home and career she was a very social person enjoying spending time with friends and volunteering. Until her health prohibited her, she was a volunteer at Samaritan’s Thrift Store and Meals on Wheels and was on various church committees for St Mathews By The Sea. She was also a member of 2 book clubs, Single Seniors, and 2 Red Hat Groups.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on November 8, 2025 at St Mathews By The Sea UMC 1000 Coastal Highway Fenwick Island DE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St Mathews By The Sea UMC or John’s Hopkins Rheumatology Scleroderma Center Fund. Click here for more about Sue.
