Harvey Craig Kellermann died peacefully at his home in Middlesex Beach, Delaware on Friday, August 8th, surrounded by family and friends who deeply loved him.
Craig was a graduate of Newman High School in New Orleans, attended the University of Virginia and obtained a master’s in English at UVA. He was a voracious reader. He was attracted to William Faulkner but his favorite novel was James Joyce’s Ulysses.
Craig spent the bulk of his career in Washington, DC. For many years he worked at the Securities and Exchange Commission under Director John Shad. He and John had not only a close working relationship but also forged a lasting friendship. Craig then transitioned to manage the law firm of Debevois and Plimpton. He rose to any challenge and relished resolving ticklish human resource issues.
Craig met the love of his life, Tom Hill, while riding the DC Metro. For the next 51 years, they shared every aspect of life together. Tom and Craig were holding hands and hearts as Craig passed.
Craig cared deeply about gay rights and equality for all people.
Craig retired to his beach house at Middlesex Beach, were he enjoyed entertaining friends and swimming in the Atlantic waters. In the mornings, he refused to be disturbed until he had devoured the Washington Post and the NY Times, conquered the crossword puzzles and imbibed two cups of coffee.
Craig traveled extensively, particularly enjoying his time in Italy. He was well versed in Roman history and culture and felt like Florence was his second home.
He is remembered for being exceptionally kind to everyone and having a generous spirit.
He is preceded in death by his parents Butter and Harvey and is survived by his partner Tom, brother Scott, nephews Seth and Josh and numerous friends. He felt a close connection to the lifeguards at Middlesex Beach. According to his wishes, the lifeguards will scatter his ashes.
