RE: Saturday, September 1, 2018 Community Meeting
Meeting will be called to order at 10:00 a.m. at Ocean View Presbyterian Church located at 67 Central Ave.
I hope that this letter finds you enjoying your last few days of summer and the time that you may have remaining in Middlesex Beach.
Please join the Middlesex Beach Association’s Board of Directors and your fellow property owners at our End of Summer Meeting of Members. We will be meeting at 10:00 a.m. on September 1st at Ocean View Presbyterian Church located at 67 Central Avenue, Ocean View, DE.
This past summer has been a very busy and productive season for the Board.
Board Elections
In accordance with our Bylaws, the Board of Directors shall consist of eight (8) individuals elected to staggered two-year terms, plus the past president. There are four (4) open Board positions for this election and each property is entitled to one (1) vote for each open position.
The biographies of the eight (8) candidates are enclosed. They are: Mary Byrd, Nancy Glasgow, Steve Larsen, Alan Lescht, Greg Pichler, Marty Shecter, Ellen Throop, and David Wolf. Any additional nominations may also be made from the floor at the meeting, or by making their interest known to the President (myself) or to the Nominating Committee Chair (Sharon Adams) prior to the meeting, as per our Bylaws.
The Board encourages every property owner to vote, either at the meeting or by using the enclosed proxy/ballot. An envelope has been included for the convenience of anyone voting by proxy. For those Members who own more than one property, please cast a separate vote (proxy) for each property.
In accordance with Delaware State Law, a property owner may cast no more than one vote per candidate. Please note you are not required to cast a vote for each open position. However, if your proxy has two or more votes for any one candidate or more than 4 votes, then none of your votes will count and you will be marked as “present”.
Beach Passes
This year we reduced the number of beach passes from two per property to one per property. We noticed that there was a lower demand for parking which supports the idea that the second beach pass was transferred with a parking pass.
We also had a back-up plan that provided a day pass should a beach pass be lost, unavailable or misplaced. The number of day passes issued this summer was less than 20 (as I write this) and the few challenges were quickly resolved.
Beach Replenishment
The Board worked diligently with Sea Colony and the Great Lakes Dredging and Dock Company to minimize the disruption on our beach, to our residents and to our guests. We appreciate the abundance of patience and understanding provided by the community.
Emergency Repairs
As a reminder, if you have an emergency repair that needs to be completed, please submit a “notice of emergency construction” to alert the Board.
Closing
Personally, I would like to thank the current Board Members whose efforts have made this a successful summer season. Without their institutional knowledge, experience, ideas, and insight, this year would not have been as successful, and the Board would not have functioned.
There are also those non-Board Members, who contribute valuable time and resources, whose efforts I also am grateful for as they head up or serve on the various committees that support the enjoyment, safety, and beauty of our amazing community.
Finally, each of you have my gratitude for the support and respect that you have shown throughout the past year, even as we dealt with challenging issues.
– Jeff Sella, President
