Middlesex Beach has been contacted by Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, LLC (GLDDC), the company contracted by the USACE Philadelphia District, for permission to transport equipment to the Town of Bethany Beach from their staging area in South Bethany, then southward after the work in Bethany has been completed. We have spent several hours coordinating with Sea Colony and GLDDC to minimize any effects on our residents and their guests while helping them to finish their job in a safe, timely manner.
Northward (S.B. to B.B.)
The MBA Board, in conjunction with Sea Colony’s Board of Directors, approved GLDDC to cross our beaches during the following times:
- May 20 from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM
- May 20 from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM
- May 21 from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM
- May 21 from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM
- May 22 from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM
- May 22 from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM
with the following provisos:
- All equipment is to be moved as close to the waterline as feasible and practical during the aforementioned times;
- All crossings must be completed, and any ruts, tracks, and/or other conditions removed, no later than 10:00 AM each morning after any equipment has been moved;
- No crossing whatsoever may be done between May 25 and May 28;
-
- If there is any need to move equipment north after May 22, we will need to coordinate an acceptable window of time with GLDDC and Sea Colony.
Southward (B.B. to S.B.)
The GLDDC is not yet able to provide exact dates for when they would be ready to transport their equipment back south across our beaches to their staging area. We have requested as much advance notice as possible but hope that a minimum of 48 hours advance notice can be provided. When further details regarding the “return trip” are known, we will be sure to disseminate that information out to all of the Middlesex Beach Association in due course.
Additional Sand at Our Southern Border
We have also been informed that we will receive additional sand south of Evergreen Road. We are waiting for further details such as dates and impacts to our resident/guest beach-goers and homeowners along Dune Road. Like above, we will circulate supplemental specifics when available.
Conclusion:
This replenishment project is a major benefit to the public beaches and communities in Delaware. We will continue to coordinate and work with the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, LLC and Sea Colony as necessary to minimize hazards and disturbances to our communities. If you have any questions regarding this project’s impacts on our beach, please send an email to [email protected].
We thank you for your understanding of our boards’ decisions and support of local beaches’ replenishment.
Jeff Sella, President
for the MBA Board of Directors
