Community Patrol Revampments/Reminders

Renaming: “Security” to “Community Patrol” (CP) to better reflect their duties:

  • Enforce MBA Covenants and Rules/Regulations (i.e. parking, beach, smoking, noise/Quiet Hours, and other nuisance violations). The CP serves as the “eyes and ears” for more serious issues.
  • Please note that Public Safety issues are handled by State and Local law enforcement.
2018 Staffing: Currently staffed with 7 CP members: day2 night
  • Generally, 3 CP members will be on duty at a time, rotating between the Guard House, Beach/Pine side patrols, beach pass checks, and the Sea Colony (north) border.
  • We will continue to seek 1 additional Day Guard
  • CP will be on duty starting the weekend before Memorial Day (May 22), then full time from Memorial Day-Labor Day, then weekends through the third weekend of September.
Equipment: Multiple upgrades
  • New, electric patrol cart to address safety concerns with the old, aging gas-powered cart. The new is quieter, faster (to cross DE 1 safely), and reduces the amount of gasoline required to store.
  • New, more visible CP uniforms
  • Picture ID employee badges (also for lifeguards)
  • Radios which will be used to enhance communication and coordination among CP members, as well as the Beach Patrol (lifeguards).
Beach and Parking Passes:
  • Please ensure that you both have and display your beach and parking pass(es).  Parking passes are required at all times during the Summer Season and beach passes are required to utilize our beach.  CP will ask you to return to your property if you don’t have them.
  • Display hanging parking pass(es) on your rearview mirror or flat on the driver’s side dash.
  • Display sticker parking pass on driver’s side windshield or bumper (the latter for golf carts only).
  • Parked cars blocking a street, driveway, and/or fire hydrant at any time will be towed away for safety reasons. Please refer to our Towing Policy for specifics.
  • Cars parked without a parking pass will be first issued a warning, and may then be towed away for any subsequent violations.
  • We also plan to have much more frequent Beach Pass checks.
Renters:
  • Please take the necessary steps to ensure your renters are familiar with MBA Covenants/Rules/Regulations, particularly our Quiet Hours and beach smoking restrictions.
  • Any fines for violations by renters will be imposed on the property owner(s).
Dogs:
  • Per Delaware State law (7 Del.C. Ch. 17 § 1702), no dogs are allowed on our beach May 1-September 30 at any time.
Smoking:
  • Current MBA rules prohibit smoking beyond 50 feet from the dune line, 10 AM-5 PM daily, May 20-September 21.
Quiet Hours:
  • Our current Quiet Hours are from 11 PM-6 AM, daily. Please be aware that gathering on porches and/or outside areas may disturb neighbors.

Lastly, the CP is there to help you… please be respectful!
