Evergreen Road Drainage

  • General Description

Water from the Middlesex side of this road drains into a ditch that feeds into a culvert under Pine Path near South Bethany's Town Hall. From there, the ditch parallels our Pine Path, and the water eventually finds its way west past the tennis club to the wetlands adjacent the Assawoman Bay.
Our understanding is that DelDOT plans to extend the Pine Path ditch northward towards Kent Ave, and tie it in with an existing buried (rusting) culvert west of Bridge Rd. Exact details of this are unknown.

    Past work
3 culverts along this ditch were replaced during the work along Addy Road in 2005. These were made of corrugated metal; they were significantly rusted and collapsing. 2 were at #127 Evergreen, and the other was at #133 Evergreen.

In the intervening 2 decades, MBA and property owners have done additional culvert replacement/expansions. Details will be added to the below information.

The partial collapse of this culvert was reported to MBA on 7/31/24. A smaller pipe was stented inside the 18" rusting corrugated steel culvert in case of complete collapse. We appreciate the assistance of the homeowner who helped clear vegetation from the side of the ditch and sand from the bottom of the decaying pipe.
